The Toad Palace
Your turn begins at The Toad Palace.
Roll two dice for what you encounter within the toad palace:
2 = A truly gigantic toad lives under the huge lily pad this palace is on, and can surface within a large pool in the palace. Fight a Melee Combat with an under toad. The under toad's attributes are Arms: 7, Magic: 3, Craft: 1, Vitae: 1. If you receive a Wound due to Melee Combat with the under toad, receive 1 additional Wound. After a Melee Combat with the under toad, you must choose to end Combat when given the choice.
3 = A toad troubadour sings of a spell for summoning a sticky tongue that catches fleeing foes. If you choose, gain lash. Lash is a Spell. Lash may be used after any Combat when you are instructed that you must choose to end Combat with the monster in that Combat. When used, fight another Combat with that monster; The kind of Combat fought will be the same as the last kind of Combat fought with that monster.
4 = A giant toad protects one of the treasury rooms of this palace. Fight a Melee Combat with a guardian toad. The guardian toad's attributes are Arms: 5, Magic: 3, Craft: 1, Vitae: 3. If the guardian toad has fallen due to Combat with you, gain 1 Gold.
5 = The more skilled toad man warriors can cast a common toad spell for changing foes into frogs. Fight a Melee Combat with a toad man hero. The toad man hero's attributes are Arms: 4, Magic: 2, Craft: 3, Vitae: 2. At the start of any Melee Combat the toad man hero is in, roll a die. If the die roll is less than the toad man hero's Arms, your Arms and Magic become 1 for that Melee Combat only.
6 = Many frog men have come to aid their toad man allies in guarding this palace of frogs. Fight a Magical Combat with a frog man guard. The frog man guard's attributes are Arms: 2, Magic: 4, Craft: 2, Vitae: 2.
7 = The toad man guards of this palace will bar entrance to the unworthy. Unless you have an Item with the word 'toad' in it's name, roll two dice. If the die roll is greater than the total of your Arms plus your Magic, your turn ends and the next turn will begin at The Lily Pond; Proceed to that page if so.
8 = Numerous toad men patrol this palace of toads. Fight a Melee Combat with a toad man guard. The toad man guard's attributes are Arms: 4, Magic: 2, Craft: 2, Vitae: 2.
9 = The mages among the toad men employ a common toad magic of transforming enemies into frogs. Fight a Magical Combat with a toad man mage. The toad man mage's attributes are Arms: 2, Magic: 4, Craft: 3, Vitae: 2. At the start of any Magical Combat the toad man mage is in, roll a die. If the die roll is less than the toad man mage's Magic, your Arms and Magic become 1 for that Magical Combat only.
10 = A giant frog defends one of the treasure rooms of this palace. Fight a Magical Combat with a guardian frog. The guardian frog's attributes are Arms: 3, Magic: 5, Craft: 1, Vitae: 3. If the guardian frog has fallen due to Combat with you, gain 1 Gold.
11 = A sniveling little toad man wishes to use his toad magic to serve the right master. Roll a die, unless you have a toadie. If the die roll is less than your Craft, gain a toadie. A toadie is an Ally. If you have the toadie at the start of any Combat, you may choose to have the monster in that Combat with you fight a Combat with the toadie first. The kind of Combat the toadie fights with the monster will be of the same kind you would have fought with the monster. The toadie's attributes are Arms: 2, Magic: 2, Craft: 3, Vitae: 1. At the start of any Combat the toadie is in, roll a die. If the die roll is equal to or less than the toadie's Craft, the Arms and Magic of the monster in the Combat become 1 for that Combat only. If the monster has fallen due to Combat with the toadie, the Combat with you does not occur and you gain the appropriate XP as though the monster had fallen due to Combat with you. If the toadie has fallen due to Combat with the monster, lose the toadie, then the Combat with you and the monster occurs, with the monster retaining any Wounds it received due to Combat with the toadie. If neither the toadie nor the monster has fallen due to the Combat between them, the Combat with you and the monster occurs, with the monster retaining any Wounds it received due to Combat with the toadie.
12 = A large, magnificent toad sits upon a throne and wears a large golden crown. Roll a die. If the die roll is 1, 2, or 3, fight a Melee Combat with a toad prince. If the die roll is 4, 5, or 6, fight a Magical Combat with a toad prince. The toad prince's attributes are Arms: 5, Magic: 5, Craft: 3, Vitae: 3. At the start of any Combat with the toad prince, roll two dice. If the die roll is equal to or greater than the total of your Craft plus your Vitae, your Arms and Magic become 1 for that Combat only. If the toad prince has fallen due to Combat with you, gain a toad crown, unless you have a toad crown. A toad crown is an Item. If you have the toad crown at the start of a turn on a page with the word 'Lily' or 'Toad' in it's name, increase your Arms and Magic by 1 for that turn only. Also, if you have the toad crown and a monster with the word 'toad' in it's name has fallen due to Combat with you, you may choose to roll a die. If the die roll is equal to or less than your Craft, gain a toad guard. A toad guard is an Ally. if you have the toad guard at the start of any Combat, you may choose to have the monster in that Combat with you fight a Combat with the toad guard first. The kind of Combat the toad guard fights with the monster will be of the same kind you would have fought with the monster. The toad guard's attributes are Arms: 3, Magic: 2, Craft: 1, Vitae: 1. If the monster has fallen due to Combat with the toad guard, the Combat with you does not occur and you gain the appropriate XP as though the monster had fallen due to Combat with you. If the toad guard has fallen due to Combat with the monster, lose the toad guard, then the Combat with you and the monster occurs, with the monster retaining any Wounds it received due to Combat with the toad guard. Also, if you have the toad crown and a monster with the word 'frog' in it's name has fallen due to Combat with you, you may choose to roll a die. If the die roll is equal to or less than your Craft, gain a frog guard. A frog guard is an Ally. if you have the frog guard at the start of any Combat, you may choose to have the monster in that Combat with you fight a Combat with the frog guard first. The kind of Combat the frog guard fights with the monster will be of the same kind you would have fought with the monster. The frog guard's attributes are Arms: 2, Magic: 3, Craft: 1, Vitae: 1. If the monster has fallen due to Combat with the frog guard, the Combat with you does not occur and you gain the appropriate XP as though the monster had fallen due to Combat with you. If the frog guard has fallen due to Combat with the monster, lose the frog guard, then the Combat with you and the monster occurs, with the monster retaining any Wounds it received due to Combat with the frog guard. If neither the frog guard nor the monster has fallen due to the Combat between them, the Combat with you and the monster occurs, with the monster retaining any Wounds it received due to Combat with the frog guard. You may not use any other Item with the word 'helmet', 'helm', 'hat', 'tiara', or 'crown' in it's name if you have the toad crown.
Unless you rolled a 7 and returned to The Lily Pond, after your toad palace encounter, you may choose to do any of the following in any order you choose:
Pay 1 Gold to gain a toad pass. A toad pass is an Item. A toad pass does not count towards the number of Items you may have.
Pay 2 Gold to gain a green potion, unless you have a toad amulet or a toad crown, in which case pay 1 Gold to gain a green potion. A green potion is an Item. The green potion may be used at any time you have 1 or more Wounds. When used, heal 2 Wounds, then lose the green potion.
Pay 1 Gold to gain croak, unless you have a toad amulet or a toad crown, in which case you can gain croak without paying 1 Gold. Croak is a Spell. Croak may be used at the start of any Melee Combat. When used, the Arms and Magic of the monster in the Melee Combat become 1 for that Melee Combat only.
Pay 1 Gold to gain ribbit, unless you have a toad amulet or a toad crown, in which case you can gain ribbit without paying 1 Gold. Ribbit is a Spell. Ribbit may be used at the start of any Magical Combat. When used, the Arms and Magic of the monster in the Magical Combat become 1 for that Magical Combat only.
Pay 2 Gold to gain wartsandall, unless you have a toad amulet or a toad crown, in which case pay 1 Gold to gain wartsandall. Wartsandall is a Spell. Wartsandall may be used at the start of any Combat. When used, the Arms and Magic of the monster in the Combat become 1 for that Combat only.
Pay 1 Gold to gain frogfind, unless you have a toad amulet or a toad crown, in which case you can gain frogfind without paying 1 Gold. Frogfind is a Spell. You may use frogfind at the start of your turn on The Bridge page or The Lily Pond page. If frogfind is used at the start of your turn on The Bridge page, your turn ends and the next turn will begin at The Lily Pond; Proceed to that page if so. If frogfind is used at the start of your turn on The Lily Pond page, your turn ends and the next turn will begin at The Toad Palace; Proceed to that page if so.
When you are done gaining Items and/or gaining Spells, you must choose between staying at The Toad Palace or going back to The Lily Pond. If you choose to stay at The Toad Palace, your turn ends and the next turn will begin at The Toad Palace; Stay on this page if so. If you choose to go to The Lily Pond, your turn ends and the next turn will begin at The Lily Pond; Proceed to that page if so.
